The problem with not allowing images is that any links to images
are liable to vanish rendering the archive of such messages
pointless.
Most of the free image store sites are struggling to make money
and clamping down on image links and closing or reducing...
Some, like PINTEREST make you sign up before you look at
them....
... I think some one said "a picture paints a thousand words and
its probably true...
Thus the problem with using free image services. I have my own
servers, so I (and only I) determine when content becomes
unavailable, but people who think that's "too much work" just end
up providing expiring content. Life is a trade-off.
One possible approach would be to have some server space set
aside for this mailing list's content, and let people put stuff
there. The classiccmp mailing lists, while otherwise
dysfunctional, provide this and it works out quite well.
But then we're back to the problem of people thinking it's ok to
just dive in and use tools without first learning anything about
them.
