If this is the correct series of photos for your tape drive, then the rubber roller which is driven by the tape drive motor IS, repeat IS, of critical dimensions. Please verify.
Yes - this is "my" tape drive - beside the capstan something else must be broken too - I got it as "I replaced it in the 80s since it was broken" like it is shown in the first picture - so - already dismantled. Sad that the dimensions are critical then. I measured them as good as I could with a digital caliper gauge 7 years ago before I removed the goo: (sorry for metric dimensions ;)) Outer diameter of the capstan: 10.25mm Outer diameter of the brazen part (= inner diameter of the capstan): 6.4mm Regards, Oliver
