My first quality station was the WESD51. I do think that the Hakko 888 is a better choice, these days, though. I am currently using an Aouye Hakko clone, at my temporary house, which is fine, if you know the limitations. I also like, very much, the TS100 iron (with the replacement open source firmware), for portable use. - Alex On Wed, Jan 27, 2021 at 17:01 William Sudbrink via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:
Yes, I have an 808 for when I don't want to haul something big over to my PACE desoldering station.

Agreed... The 1010NA is Weller's entry level station.

The old analog entry level station was the Weller WES51 If you can find one, I'd suspect years of life left on it.

I really believe a simple Weller with a variable heat control station

the way to go. That was either Dan or Bill S's suggestion to me 15 years ago when I asked. I have only needed to replace the iron itself once, I replace tips every so often (which I bought cheap from Radioshack closeout). bill

I donated a pretty nice Weller to the VCF a little over a year ago. If the VCF wants to sell it to your friend and use the money for something else, it wouldn't bother me any.

A friend is looking for a good quality soldering iron with adjustable heat.
Anyone going to the workshop selling one or know where I can find one?
Thanks,
