Hello! It's funny that we're talking about mylar punch tape on that auction site today. Because I was thinking of the place where I first saw punch tape in paper, it was at the first phototypesetting job that my father had taken at a shop in Manhattan. They did so for a system running on a DG Nova 2, and then it got created by the system itself to be run on a Merganthaler VIP machine. The TTY was a noisy as anything model 33. (By the time he left there the job had upgraded itself to a Nova 3.) The second place was at a shop also in Manhattan and next door to where our hot metal typesetting shop was, and there he basically created an entirely new shop. The original setup ran on a paper of PDP-8 systems with specialty terminals creating the input also on puch tape, and the systems used I8008 processors. The output also was done the same way and also for VIP machines. When that shop closed they were eventually using laser based systems. But this has nothing to do with the dino footprints in the mud next door to the bunkhouse and a very big tent. ----- Gregg C Levine gregg.drwho8@gmail.com "This signature fought the Time Wars, time and again."
