IMO those swivel arm magnifying lenses don't help much. What does help with soldering is something along the lines of an AmScope microscope w/ camera. Pricey, yes... But well worth it. You want to be able to inspect SMT soldering

Suggestion from the CDL membership - Looking for input on how much use it would receive during VCF workshops and learn to solder.

Second the scope. If I bought my scope now, I think I'd get the arm with the camera and a monitor, but my trinocular arm scope with a small ccd in the third slot works very well: https://amscope.com/collections/stereo-microscopes-boom-stands/products/c-sm... I cannot begin to explain how much more fun soldering is with this, and it's a nice scope for lots of other things if needed (reading small letters on labels, doing fine mechanical work, etc.) Jim -- RETRO Innovations, Contemporary Gear for Classic Systems www.go4retro.com store.go4retro.com
