Yes you do, really. However the exercise of someone's eclipse helloworld.c example, even if you don't understand the mechanics (yet), is very satisfying and a really huge moral booster. (as long as its a good example that works!)
And please, for the love of all that's holy, AFTER getting that running, at least LOOK at what's going on with the compiler to actually do what you told the IDE to do. If you ever want to be a truly effective programmer you'll need at least a passing understanding of what the IDE is preventing you from seeing and controlling.
