These are off-the-shelf products that have been around for awhile. I (rather unfortunately) had to study that technology and the available chipsets at the request of a customer recently. It works reasonably well if everything is perfect...if not, not so much. Since power lines typically are not shielded, I doubt if that power line solution is FCC compliant. I have a friend who briefly worked for a power line WAN startup - he said they couldn’t get anywhere because of radiated emissions.
