It shouldn't be too difficult to replace, its just a couple of surface mount solder joints at the back and sides. Which if there are problems with something on that board then obviously that would need to be replaced. But as you can see those solder joints at the back of the SD card slot itself are pretty accessible and should be quite easy to unsolder the old one and put in a new one. Although the only ones I can find are in China so obviously those wouldn't be here by the workshop. But if you are 100% sure its just a physical failure, for example the card just doesn't stay in or you can see a contact missing inside then just do the 10 dollars for the card slot, try replacing it. If that doesn't work or you ruin the daughter board doing it then buy the replacement board for about 25 bucks here: http://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?catId=0&initiative_id=SB_20160116215808&... And just pop that board in and then you still fix it for way less than what it costs to pay someone to fix it. So best case scenario $10. I've looked around online trying to find the module, but keep getting stupid google results for USB Multi-card CF readers. I did find one place that will do the repair for $100, and I read some good reviews about the place. Better than the almost $300 Canon wants for the repair. At one time I (about 6-months ago) I had tracked down the module, and it was like a $40 component, so for $60 labor and the knowledge that they'll be able to get the parts, I'm thinking that may be the best way to go.

A simple SD card slot replace should be easy. So far I have had good luck with fixing DSLRs though. The last one I fixed a friend brought to me not knowing what was wrong, just wouldn't turn on. Took it apart (some boards were soldered together) put it back together and it worked. Guess it was a cold solder joint. If you have the replacement parts ready I guess I could fix it at the workshop. I am not 100% sure I'd be attending though yet, thus why I have not put my name on the list yet. I guess I will look into that now.
