Nintendo in particular seems to like underproducing for a while after they come out with something new. Probably a marketing strategy. On Mon, May 1, 2017 at 9:39 AM, Systems Glitch via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:
Yes, I know some people want to be "early adopters" and willing to pay extra for it. But it's been out over two months, and many stores still have empty stock racks.
Apparently in this particular case the supply issue is being made worse by supposed out-the-back-door sales directly by management. Not that they're stealing them, just that they're selling them at inflated prices outside the normal retail channel and pocketing the difference. I've heard that, particularly with the Switch, this is super common with Target and GameStop.
Seems like this happens every time a new console is released. You have to wonder if the manufacturers plan it like this to increase hype.
