Yeah, I don’t touch CRT’s, after hearing every vintage person say that there is one thing in hobby that can kill you (well, besides your wife…) and that is the voltages in a CRT… And after doing a presentation at VCF East on what to do with a collection after death, I don’t want to have a Memorial placard at next year’s VCF with a cause of death to be from electrocution while poking around an old CRT…haha. And I just plugged it in to listen for signs of life after I picked it up yesterday, so I know that it has the potential to be fully charged right now. (the person I bought it from is a business liquidator, and he has a large storage unit in Brick absolutely packed to the rafters with all kinds of obsolete business gear, including oddball stuff like microscopes that you would see in a high school classroom, (can you use those to read the markings on small chips, I am guessing not) but mostly things like network switches and PC’s that are less than a decade old. I should get him to send me some pictures of it, I didn’t recognize ¾ of the stuff in there. That doesn't mean there aren't others in attendance who may have good CRT skills, but I'm not personally aware that the other attendees are or are not. I did see a few new faces, so there is a possibility some of them are good with CRT repair. But that's the cool thing about the Workshops. You can find a surprising array of knowledge and talent in this hobby. CRT component excluded, you may find others who could help you with the other circuitry in your 3153 terminal. It may be possible to "blindly" test the communications aspect of the device... talking to another terminal with the other connection responding to what you type. Maybe others who are attending the Workshop today will respond. If it is, is anyone going that is versed on old CRT's? I have an IBM 3153 that is completely dead, that I picked up today and I am wondering if it is salvageable.
