The front doors were just a rare moment where Commodore over-engineered one of their products. I'm surprised Jack didn't have them removed from the design to save five cents. And, given the ubiquity of the lack of door on the 1702 in today's collections, I've even considered selling the doors off some of the units I have since I always leave the door open on units in use anyway :-)
