But sometimes these questions transition to a thought experiment ...hmm; 10mb carts were popular for about 5 years (?) before they became obsolete. 1978 (?) to maybe 1983, eh? Formatting impacted effective storage, etc but roughly I.can think of.the Tallgrass IBM PC tape harddrive. Also the VRData Hard Disk III for trs 80 model III had tape storage and a st506-ish hard drive in one unit. Alloy sold an s-100 tape unit that also worked on the.ibm pc. That 10mb class was from a time when tape carts were used for more than just deep storage and backups, and before pc hard drives were less expensive. A lot of people today think all home computers would have had a hard drive, but they were not cheap enough until 1985/6. 10mb tapes were viable until 10mb hard drives became affordable.
