I think this is the sort of thing that gamers use to broadcast their screens.
I seem to recall from a few years ago issues with these sorts of devices not working well with certain motherboards.
I see some of these record to SD... if you don't intend to broadcast real time that would take a lot of
system dynamics out of the equation! You can then transfer the SD data to the PC for editing or whatever.

I haven't tried, but I always wanted to find out how good are these hdmi
recorders
with the online broadcasting craze, gamers are constantly uploading their
tournaments in HD
and so these recorders are becoming so popular
they always have the same recorders which require a desktop to operate,
just as the early generation recorders with only composite video,
but this one even records hdmi to sd card without the need for a desktop
