I am located in New Windsor, NY. I am also within driving distance of the vcf museum, although it is quite far. That will help for any who may have a spare terminal. - Alex On Wed, Nov 24, 2021 at 8:38 PM Jason Perkins via vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org<mailto:vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org>> wrote: While I don't have a spare terminal to offer at the moment, I can give you this advice: Many terminals use a proprietary keyboard. Without it the terminal is just a desk ornament. Some late terminals will use a standard PS/2 keyboard, but these are less common. So be sure you are going to have a keyboard that works with the terminal you select! A terminal which offers DEC VT100 modes is probably the most compatible, but ones which do Wyse or other modes work well with Linux / Unix / MacOS too. Some terminals use a somewhat special jack for the serial port, called MMJ. You can get adapters to change that into a standard DB connector, it's just something to be aware of. Also, a "serial light box" - an adapter with LEDs that shows you the status of the various serial lines can be quite handy when hooking up RS232 devices. Hello, I am relatively new to the vintage computing community (VCF east 2021 was my first event, and I learned about the mailing list there). Now that the holiday season has come around, I was hoping to start off my collection by getting a simple ascii terminal. I am quite flexible when it comes to models, and I am comfortable with having to adapt it (within reason) to get it hooked up. I was hoping for a vt100 or similar however, as I think that they look quite cool, but I know that these older models are rarer.
Thank you for any help that you can provide! Enzo
