You can count me in to help through the whole week, I do feel that a date in late April (or maybe even May, to avoid coinciding with Passover) would be best for the most people. I'm sure there are others who would be willing to help out earlier than just Thursday - and if not willing, then perhaps bribed or forced to! ;) -Thomas On Fri, Nov 10, 2023 at 2:28 PM Jeffrey Brace via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:
Thank you everyone for sharing your thoughts. It does appear that some would like it in late April. I understand and this makes sense. I chose the dates based on the time that I already have off from school which is spring break in the public schools.
To change to late April would be hard for me as I would have to take a whole week off work to prepare. There are never enough volunteers on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before the show. Sure everyone shows up on Thursday to help when most things are already done as they need to be done before Friday. If I didn't take these days off, then there would be things that wouldn't be ready by Friday morning of the show.
To make late April work, then I would need committed helpers to set up OR I would have to consider other venues. Other venues where I wouldn't have to worry about tables, chairs, stages, moving swag, signs, cleaning up, etc. It becomes a full time job for me preparing for VCF East, easily spending 40 hours a week organizing for it. I have a lot to consider and figure out.

I haven’t made plans for either yet, but I’d also prefer a somewhat later VCF East due to weather, as someone else pointed out.

Yes, you do not look directly at an eclipse, but you can look directly at all of the stuff at VCF East.
I'll be running the soldering workshop that day so I just hope I can get some time to stare at everything. :-)
