There were attempts to port crappy Nix's onto machines that did not have the power to really support them. The early articles about the i386 touched on "finally" we have something that can run UNIX on a micro.
*nix showed up in a lot of surprising places. I recall Xinu for the Z80 and 68K (I don't recall if there was a port to the 8088 or 8086). AT&T put it on their ISN (?, a 286) and we had Minix (kind of brain dead Unix). Of course there was Xenix. One OS that doesn't seem to get much love is Microware's OS9 (sorry not a huge fan of OSK). One day I may start a search for some OS9 computers. I actually have something that can run OS9 Level I but I don't have the notes required to convert Tandy's OS9 to a bootable copy of OS9 for my 6809 computer. And as a former owner of several 3B1s and 7300s I don't understand the last statement. ;-) -- Linux Home Automation Neil Cherry ncherry@linuxha.com http://www.linuxha.com/ Main site http://linuxha.blogspot.com/ My HA Blog Author of: Linux Smart Homes For Dummies
