Being an old guy like most of this list, I'm not terribly fast. I have a Surly touring bike I like to load up with camping gear and do maybe 70-80 mile days, or 30-50 mile afternoon/lunch/brewery rides. I've got a folding Montague that goes in the back of my old Cessna 170 plane, too, that does quite well on trails like the Great Allegheny Passage or the C&O Canal towpath. That has been serving well as my take-it-around bike. On Sat, 14 Mar 2020 13:05:59 -0400 Neil Cherry via vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:
If you get to central Jersey again and don't mind riding the roads I know a lot of good areas to ride. What speed do you avg and how far do you like to ride?
I usually do centuries during the summer and for some reason our speeds have dropped to just 15 - 16 mph avg over the entire ride. We ride the flat lands of NJ and I know a lot of Pine Barrens rides. Even if you can't ride with us I can toss together a route or two for the area of Spotswood/Monroe Twp to the shore, south or out to the Sourlands (almost the Delaware).
