Post-workshop, Jeff B. and I got some wood to make shelves for inside the museum storage locker and also to improve one of the exhibits. Details when I get a chance to finish those projects... On Mon, Jun 11, 2018, 12:00 AM Evan Koblentz <evan@vcfed.org> wrote:
Martin dropped off a spool of solid cat 5, assorted hardware, and the tool for terminating it (which he taught me to use). New-ish member Matt K. and I bought a piece of electrical PVC to go from the attic into the museum. We installed that and started to put in some of the cables. Jon S. did more cabling. Roddy cut the PVC shorter for us so it fits our space better. Lots more to do! Jon and I started making a plan for how we'll route the rest of the cables from security cameras to the PVC.
As for my own project, I spent about four hours cursing at the Portable III and all the Lego stuff because it wouldn't properly run code that I knew "should" work ... until Jeff G. and Bill I. convinced me to try flipping a ribbon cable around ... after which it immediately worked perfectly. :)
Had a problem using the setup disk to configure the hard drive. Entered the date/time (also tried period-appropriate dates) but then it just said "please wait" and froze there on every attempt. I don't know if that means a dead CMOS battery or something else. Did not get any errors while booting. The battery appears to be a square plastic assembly, not a coin cell. Any ideas?
Didn't have a chance to try to Apple II emulator.

Less than average turnout, but lots of stuff accomplished. Various members worked on their own and VCF equipment.
I felt that everyone was tired of going to the same eating place (Princess Maria, Blue Swan, Main Street Grill), so I found us a new place not too far away: Brick House Tavern + Tap in Neptune City. Everyone felt that the food was good, reasonable price and lots of selection of beers. It's a sports bar so I enjoyed watching the Yankees game while eating dinner. We were put in the outside deck area and the weather was great. They take reservations, so next workshop I will reserve some spaces for us.
Evan also worked on museum improvements which he can detail here.
Does anyone want to chime in on details on what they worked on?
