OT: FIOS Voice Backup Battery Replacement for 12V 7.2Ah
So I heard this beeping about every 30 minutes or so. I thought it was a watch. My sister heard it too and didn't tell me so I was going nuts trying to find it. It turns out that it was the replacement battery light on our FIOS box. This is the battery backup in case power fails and lasts about 8 hours. It didn't help with Sandy because the power was out for 8 days. So anyway I need to replace it. It is 12V 7.2 Ah. The one that Verizon sells is 12V 8Ah: https://www.verizon.com/home/accessories/fios-voice-backup-battery/?&skuPara... . I figure that I can get a cheaper or better one (longer lasting). Before I start searching eBay, Google search are there any recommendations or warnings? Thanks! == Jeff Brace
That's a pretty standard SLA battery. I got mine on eBay. I don't remember from whom but I probably shopped by top-rated seller and closest to NY. No issues since replacement two years ago. I have a small 2000w Generac generator that I use during longer power failures for "infrastructure" stuff like the FiOS box, routers, and charging my electronics. Sandy lesson unfortunately. I also have a massive 12kw portable one that I have not used (thankfully) that can power half of my house if I need. Rich Sent from my iPhone

See if you can find a local Battery Outlet, or some place similar. You can find UPS batteries and the like a lot cheaper than mail order. Mike Loewen mloewen@cpumagic.scol.pa.us Old Technology http://q7.neurotica.com/Oldtech/
I wonder if Batteries Plus might have them. They are close by to me. On Mon, Jul 18, 2016 at 5:16 PM, Mike Loewen via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:

If you perform the reset and it's still indicating that the battery needs replacing, then it's sure. Also look for corrosion on the terminals. I've seen in some homes where the ONT was put into a garage, or wet/unfinished basement. From my research online, they tend to fail sooner due to more significant temperature changes and high humidity. Hi Jeff: I bought a replacement at Home Depot… or was it Lowes… anyway, no sweat. Simple install, works like a champ. Of course, we haven’t had a power failure to give it an endurance test. 73 de Ray

You can buy a generic SLA battery on ebay (or anywhere, really), and they come in standard sizes so you can hardly mess up buying a replacement for the FiOS battery. I bought a Harbor Freight generator after Hurricane Irene left me without power for a week. I converted it to natural gas, you can buy a kit to do that on the internet. Google is your friend. I chain it to the house when in use so it won't walk away. Having it run on nat gas was a huge win when Sandy had me without power for another week (or more). I didn't have to queue up for gasoline. If I had it to do over again, I'd buy the 4KW generator, the 7KW is overkill. The 4KW is the smallest one with 220 2-phase output, so it can run my well pump. Mine started beeping but didn't really fail. Poor recharging system. Unplug your FIOs box and then disconnect the battery for 2 minutes. Then hook it back up. On Monday, July 18, 2016, William Dudley via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:

How do I know that the battery needs recharging vs. failing? On Mon, Jul 18, 2016 at 8:21 PM, Joseph Oprysko via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:

They are standard SLA batteries. Just make sure you get the right terminal size (0.187" or 0.250") Tom -----Original Message----- From: Jeffrey Brace via vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> To: vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> Cc: Jeffrey Brace <ark72axow@gmail.com> Sent: Mon, Jul 18, 2016 4:49 pm Subject: [vcf-midatlantic] OT: FIOS Voice Backup Battery Replacement for 12V 7.2Ah So I heard this beeping about every 30 minutes or so.
