So I got Computer Science degrees before there were computers? Cool! That means my time travel experiments do work in the future...or the past...or sometime. BLS

Indeed! Every Saturday morning at 9AM eastern, myself and some other teletype geeks get on 7,087 kHz USB for some baudot bliss running actual heavy metal machines. But there are very few of us actually using physical equipment on the air. So yes, there are other non-computer/non-ascii purposes for baudot machines, I would guess there are less than 100 people in the US using them for those other purposes (maybe less than 50!). Which is why I was surprised at the interest in the M32. 73 Eugene W2HX My Youtube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@w2hx/videos -----Original Message----- From: vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic-bounces@lists.vcfed.org> On Behalf Of Dave McGuire via vcf-midatlantic Sent: Friday, July 12, 2024 11:38 AM To: vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> Cc: Dave McGuire <mcguire@neurotica.com> Subject: Re: [vcf-midatlantic] Free ASR32 on Facebook Marketplace in NJ On July 12, 2024 11:22:06 AM Ethan Dicks via vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:

Ethan, I'm pretty sure your M15 and your M32 can talk to each other. Make sure to wire the M32 selector magnets in parallel for 60mA loop vs series for 20mA loop and run the loop directly to the selector magnets (I don't recall if the M32 has a LESU or not). 73 Eugene W2HX My Youtube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@w2hx/videos -----Original Message----- From: vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic-bounces@lists.vcfed.org> On Behalf Of Ethan Dicks via vcf-midatlantic Sent: Friday, July 12, 2024 11:22 AM To: vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> Cc: Ethan Dicks <ethan.dicks@gmail.com> Subject: Re: [vcf-midatlantic] Free ASR32 on Facebook Marketplace in NJ On Fri, Jul 12, 2024 at 8:45 AM W2HX via vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:

My thoughts exactly. The M32 can be used for RTTY or interfacing to an earlier electromechanical system. Doesn’t need to be a computer. Adapters can also be fabricated to translate the Baudot into ASCII as well. At the end of the day though it’s free, if you get it can you really complain? Tinker with it and if it’s not your cup of tea, pass it on to someone who will enjoy it! -Ian L. On Fri, Jul 12, 2024 at 11:56 W2HX via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:
