Re: [vcf-midatlantic] Commodore 1702 door
And, given the ubiquity of the lack of door on the 1702 in today's collections, I've even considered selling the doors off some of the units I have since I always leave the door open on units in use anyway :-) Jim -- RETRO Innovations, Contemporary Gear for Classic Systems www.go4retro.com store.go4retro.com
The front doors were just a rare moment where Commodore over-engineered one of their products. I'm surprised Jack didn't have them removed from the design to save five cents. Just be glad the 1702 has an internal power supply! 🙂 On Wed, Sep 2, 2020, 1:38 PM RETRO Innovations via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:

I wonder if anyone has created a 3D-printable door? If not, it wouldn't be hard. - Alex On Wed, Sep 2, 2020 at 1:58 PM Jeff Salzman via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:

If Thingiverse's website stops acting stupid, you can get an STL file for the 1702 door here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3185580 On Wed, Sep 2, 2020 at 4:13 PM Alexander Jacocks <jjacocks@gmail.com> wrote:

That would be a great thing for those with a broken one!

You really have to have good layer adhesion for the clip tabs of the door. I printed a similar door for a 1084S monitor and due to the small cross section of the tab layers, it didn't take long to break those tabs off. On Wed, Sep 2, 2020, 4:23 PM Jeffrey Brace <jeffrey@vcfed.org> wrote:

It would probably be good to print the door with extra perimeters (shells) and to print it perhaps in PETG, rather than PLA. If printed in PLA, your could temper the resulting part in an oven, if you account for the shrinkage. - Alex On Wed, Sep 2, 2020 at 4:28 PM Jeff Salzman via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:

3D printer is available at the CDL during the workshop - run off what you need. Any idea what color (PMS value) the door should be? On 9/2/2020 4:19 PM, Jeff Salzman via vcf-midatlantic wrote:
