May Repair workshop - sockets
Dean, I’m ordering sockets for CDL stock / is there a specific type that is preferred ?

Martin, thank you. I’m not sure. Perhaps Jeff S, Herb, Ian, et al would have a better idea of common sockets types we’re likely to go through Dean Notarnicola
Much discussion occurred about IC sockets. No one suggested purchase of machine-pin sockets, which is my choice. "Double wipe" sockets are preferred by others. CDL "should" purchase whichever style they find satisfactory. As to number of pins: some of all kinds should be stocked by CDL, they will get used eventually. But pin-counts above 40 are somewhat specialized. - regards, Herb -- Herbert R. Asking as the intent is for them to get used fixing / building stuff & not sit in the bin. Have a list out to the vendors for a quote in both machine-pin and double-wipe. Any suggestions on S-100 card edge connectors? Would like to keep a few as local stock as well On 5/18/2021 2:34 PM, Herb Johnson via vcf-midatlantic wrote:

Wipe sockets (double or single) have achieved "straight into the trash" status around here. Life is just too short for that cheap crap. I only use machined-pin sockets. No, I'm not rich (I have real trouble keeping the lights on around here most of the time!) but my time is valuable, and cheap sockets are a false economy. I realize this recommendation will be looked upon dimly by this broken society that thinks Wal*Mart and McDonalds are great, but I have to be honest. These days, I buy sockets from https://juriedengineering.com/ in bulk. Chris is great to deal with.

Make The Supply Chain Great Again, err somethin'. I can feel my lunch about to make a reappearance. -Dave -- Dave McGuire, AK4HZ New Kensington, PA
