Which Amigas support 1.44MB/1.76MB floppy drives?
Hey there - I was just curious which Amigas (and KS/WB versions) support 1.44/1.76MB floppy drives? I have an HxC emulator that can support 1.76MB ADF files, and I know some later Amigas can support this format, but it doesn't work on my Amiga 500, at least when booted to KS/WB 2.0 or 3.1. I believe the floppy controller on the Amiga is part of Paula, so what else changed that allowed this format to work? Would a stock 1200? Thanks! John
The Amiga 4000 does. There's a jumper on the motherboard to switch between DD or HD drive, depending on what's installed in the system. I'm not sure about the Amiga 3000, but the other systems do not (inherently) support 1.44MB/1.76MB drives. Just a thought. I picked up some floppy Drives from Kelly at the swap meet that are on the list for amiga compatibility. Did not give it a thought as to if the motherboard is compatible On my A2000? Mike Rosen Sent from: My extremely complicated, hand held electronic device.

To run a HD floppy drive for 1.76MB storage on anything but an Amiga 4000, you'll need appropriate hardware or mods. A company called Applied Engineering made an external drive that worked that way for all Amiga computers. The Chinon FZ357A drive is the only HD floppy drive that could conceivably work on all Amigas without mods due to its ability to run at the slower DD floppy drive speed. The Amiga chips can't keep up with the speed of a conventional HD floppy drive. I also think you need KS 3.1, too. Jeff Salzman On Wed, May 19, 2021, 2:55 PM Sentrytv <sentrytv@yahoo.com> wrote:

I have one in my 2000, WB 3.1. I don't recall if I had to upgrade anything to get it to work (Very long time ago) --murph ----- Original message ----- From: John Heritage via vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> To: vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> Cc: John Heritage <john.heritage@gmail.com> Subject: [vcf-midatlantic] Which Amigas support 1.44MB/1.76MB floppy drives?
