I just found out Bob Applegate passed away this morning. I knew Bob because of his Corsham KIM-1 replicas. Very nice guy, very sad to hear of his passing.
This is extremely sad news. Bob was a great guy, I liked him very much. I have a few 6800 and 6809 systems built around the boards he designed. He did great work, both in the past at Franklin and more recently on his wonderful Corsham Tech systems. He will be sorely missed, but his work will live on. Very sad news indeed. Here's Bob's blog with his last entry of "Taking a Break": http://www.corshamtech.com/ Hopefully a few vendors see this as a cautionary tale about how quickly things can change and that your projects can and will die with you. A reminder to look in to a backup or varying avenues for production, sales, and support. As most of you know, I have run ReActiveMicro.com since 2005. Likely the largest retro computer designer and vendor, and one of the longest lived. I first met Bob back at 2017 VCF, where he was selling KIM-1 add-ons and SWTPC clones. He and I spoke about how I might be able to help in production and distribution of his projects, and offer assistance where needed. After some discussion and thought he declined my proposals. We did discuss things such as legacy production and support for the Community should he pass, and sadly he didn't see much of a value in that. Many of us saw the value of Bob's work and projects, even if he ultimately didn't, and supported him throughout the years and appreciated what he and others like him do for the Community. Few designers or vendors see this aspect or plan for their passing. Bob will be missed, as will his projects and efforts. Should other designers and vendors see some value in diversifying and seeing their projects, legacy, and items live on, feel free to contact me off list. My condolences to all of Bob's friends and family for their loss. And thanks to all for making this Community the amazing thing it is. Henry S.
