Anniversary of transistor day
Was at InfoAge today and Fred mentioned this and said the transistor was developed at Camp Evans first (in secret). He mentioned a book: Crystal Fire Birth of the Information Age Book - p. 162, 201. - Jeff Brace

Fred oversimplified and/or misspoke if he said that. I have the book. The author makes no such claim. The U.S. * Navy * had a similar secret development to what Bell Labs had. Camp Evans is indeed cited on those pages of the book but in a different context -- chief engineer Harold Zahl assured Bell Labs that Army-funded researchers did NOT already have it, and he was key in ensuring the Army didn't make the transistor a national secret.
