So Dan R. and I are planning on eventually converting from Commodore 1702 monitors to LCD monitors to connect to our Commodore 64s. We have a special adapter that we bought that connects them. But we apparently need PC speakers to produce sound from the monitors. If anyone has any extras that they want to give us or know of a place where we can get them inexpensively, then please let us know! We just need tiny ones, nothing too big by the way. -- Jeff Brace - ark72axow@gmail.com
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16855494001 I got these on sale for half this price, but they are pretty good quality for being so small and cheap, so probably still worth it. USB power, which is good because my monitor has USB built in. Maybe they will go on sale again. I really wanted to have a whole row of good old 25" CRT arcade monitors now that would be a site to see but then we would need a table twice as long as they have now I only have one of these CRT's and they are hard to come by Dan

Assuming this is for the museum, any reason you wouldn't want to have the appropriate 1701/1702 monitor?
In the meantime, host an event where people can connect and help you test, etc. Bill
We are hoping to test at Festivus! On Thu, Sep 15, 2016 at 11:30 AM, william degnan via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:

Ahh ok. I still prefer the square Commodore monitors, but for cheap PC speakers, I like to use Logitech S-120 speakers. They are small, only run around $10 and are available from Target/Walmart, etc. The other I use for displays are HP or Dell speakers that are for the monitors themselves. They don't need to mount, and can be found cheap in lots on eBay.
We have exhibited twice already with Commodore 1702monitors. It gets really difficult to haul around and maintain 9 working 1702 monitors. We had to use 1x 1902 and 8x 1702 last time because we couldn't borrow a 1702 from someone else. We want to change it up and make it easier to exhibit. The first time we used 1702/C64/1541 combination. The second time we replaced the 1541 with uIEC SD cards. Now we will replace the 1702 with LCD. And perhaps I will do C64c instead of original C64 breadbin. We are working on getting more LCD and c64c. and we unofficially had the 'First To Smoke' award when one of the monitors blew while the network setup was in the warehouse still. Not a pleasant sight while coding all alone in the warehouse late at midnight. I demand a recount :) Dan -- _ ____ / \__/ Scotty, We Need More Power !! \_/ _\__ Aye, Cap'n, but we've only got 80 col's !!

And, let’s not forget that eventually, those CRTs in the 1702 monitors will fail. Finding a replacement will be extremely difficult. It’s a good idea to find a way to use current technology that can serve as a replacement.

I get it that you want to exhibit these, but the other 364 days a year you should have a server set up running VICE to allow anyone to log in and use/test/debug remotely from a networked C64, without needing to have obviously difficult to support vintage hardware up and running all of the time. My 15 cents (inflation). b

Yes, this was only meant for exhibits. I already do all of my coding, both the game code and network code, using 9x instances of VICE running on my desktop. The inherent network support of VICE supports networking as if there were Live hardware setup of 9x C64's connected via Ethernet on a network switch. Besides some of the faults with using VICE, it's the only practical method to code, test, debug a large networking platform. This is one of the recent updates back in May, where I complete d another networking milestone. This is the first time a network of C64's, or any 8bitter, can fly a missile in coordination across all 8x player screens and back around to the beginning. I feel rather proud to get this done. I hope to adapt this to other uses, and then in the future, get this ported to other platforms.
