Recommended data recovery businesses
VCF will sometimes get requests for data recovery. Sometimes we can accommodate them, sometimes we can’t. This is due to distance or special equipment that we don’t have set up. In the past when we couldn’t accommodate, then we would recommend Dave McGuire or Chuck G as paid services. Since Chuck had passed, we are curious to see if there’s others that anyone can recommend? If it is modern stuff (phones, Mac, PC's) we use Catzen Forensic https://catzen.com/. Blazer (Catzen) has rented office space from us here at System Source for about 15 years. Not inexpensive at all - You have to really - really want the data, but he will get it and quickly. If it is old we may take a crack at it. Our biggest success (Work done by Brendan Becker of the Bloop Museum) was getting close to a million dollars for two men wrongly imprisoned for rapes that never happened. It was prosecutorial mis-conduct. The transcripts of the trials had been lost, but we had a PDP-11 formatted floppy disk with the keystrokes from a stenographer. Brendan used a Grease Weasel to recover the files, and then all sorts of work to get back the transcripts. Bob Roswell, I would love to read more about that story of the prosecutorial mis-conduct, the non-rape, and the innocent men. Is that story published anywhere?
