Hope took place this past weekend. There were four volunteers: Doug Crawford Jeff Brace Jeff Jonas Joe Giliberti We had spent many weeks preparing for this event. We were there all three days (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) and felt that we were successful in connecting with our existing fans as well as letting many others learn about our organization and events. The trainers that we had set up were a hit with this audience. There were some that sat down and spent the 10 to 15 minutes to code the program into the HeathKit. We shared one of our tables with Lee Felsenstein. He was promoting his book, t-shirts and posters. He spent a lot of time talking to fans who stopped by our table. There were people of all shapes, sizes, ages and genders. It was a diverse audience of hackers. I was able to catch one or two talks as well as participate in the "Hackers Got Talent" competition. (I got 2nd place). I will share pictures later after I've decompressed a bit. It was a good weekend, but very exhausting. Take care! Jeff Brace VCF Evangelist
Such a flashback. I went to Beyond Hope in 1997 or something. First time in NYC. Went to almost all the hopes until they moved out of Hotel Penn. I think I missed one. I remember when they used to have a huuuuge spread of random crusty systems. Also remember VCf there? maybe I ran into you all there before going to a VcF. I guess I met glitch there originally as well. Hope they are still finding success! Worked a good number of them. - Ethan On Mon, 18 Aug 2025, Jeffrey Brace via vcf-midatlantic wrote:

Yes. I believe VCF started going there as early as 2012 and every year afterwards. We missed going 2022. We went in 2024, and now 2025. They are planning on doing every year now as long as they make enough.
Hope they are still finding success! Worked a good number of them.
I hope so as well!

I had reserve duty but had I known Lee Felenstein was there I would have driven out after liberty. The last time I saw him was when he made a trip to NJ and spoke to us about his plans. I forgot what year that was. I volunteered at the first HOPE and still have my red T-shirt.
I don't remember the year, but I attended The Last HOPE when I was still in high school. It's where I bought my first buttinsky phone On Tue, Aug 19, 2025, 7:49 AM Christian Liendo via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:

The early HOPEs were true hacker parties, anti-corporate. Really high energy indie feel with home-made hacking zines hardware and software trading everywhere. When the phone system was still a thing and the web got by with trust and minimum security.
