PAL C-64 on 1084-S?
Can anyone confirm that I can use a Commodore 1084S monitor to display a Pal C64? I finally got around to converting my C64 to PAL, but my LED monitor doesn't seem to work with PAL. -- ========================================= Jeff Brace Vice President Vintage Computer Federation
Not if it is a US version. I use a JVC Video Monitor that can do NTSC and PAL and has video (RCA jack) and s-video in for all my 8-bits with component or s-video (chroma/luma). I use it with a PAL C64, a NTSC C64, a NTSC Atari 800, and other computers with no problems and really great image quality. The specific model is a JVC TM-H150CG. Mine is from 2/2007 so hopefully should last a little while. Better than to try to get 80s monitors to work. Got it used on eBay. Best, Thomas

If you have access to one, You could run the video output signal of C64 though a multi-system or multi-standard VCR. Samsung had a really nice one back then. It may allow you to select NTSC out and PAL input. I don't have one to try, but I remember using them back in the late 90s - 2k. Also online there has to be converters that can do this. Good afternoon Jeff, I asked a friend who uses a Sony monitor with his PAL C64 to show off his PAL demos what model it is, he uses a Sony PVM and says most will handle all the types of video signals like PAL/NTSC/NTSC-J/SECAM. He also recommends a FB group where you can get more info about each of the models: https://www.facebook.com/groups/443876159318988 Cheers, Bryan On Tue, Sep 18, 2018 at 12:36 PM, Jeffrey Brace via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:

As others have stated, you cannot if your 1084S is a US model. My remaining one is. Personally, all of my remaining PAL/non-NTSC systems are run through an XRGB-mini, which gives excellent results and lets you use it on any HDMI-equipped monitor. Of course, there are far cheaper converters out there if you're in a pinch, just look for S-VIDEO or COMPOSITE to HDMI converters (they're around $30 or so), but the results won't necessarily be the best. On the plus side, with the C-64 and many other computers with PAL-specific models like the Atari 8-bit series, you can at least use the same monitor cables you use for the NTSC model. You can use some of the other suggestions mentioned, but you may get a black and white only picture. In fact, it's been so long since I tried, but that may be what happens when using it with a 1084S US monitor, although it may have not even gotten there. ======================================================== Bill Loguidice, Managing Director; Armchair Arcade, Inc. <http://www.armchairarcade.com> ======================================================== Authored Books <http://www.amazon.com/Bill-Loguidice/e/B001U7W3YS/ref=ntt_dp_epwbk_1> and Film <http://www.armchairarcade.com/film>; About me and other ways to get in touch <http://about.me/billloguidice> ======================================================== On Tue, Sep 18, 2018 at 1:03 AM Jeffrey Brace via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:
