Printing on 14" greenbar
Who in the group has (any) computer + printer that is ready-to-go for printing on 14" greenbar? This is for a VCFed collaboration opportunity with another organization (I can't elaborate right now).
What's the timeframe for "ready-to-go?" I have a wide-carriage Commodore DPS-1101 daisy wheel printer, but I'll need a day or two to get it set up and configured on my already setup and working Commodore 64 system. I'll also need the 14" greenbar paper for printing. On Wed, Mar 7, 2018 at 3:22 PM, Evan Koblentz via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:

Depends on what they need to print, and the source format. I did this on my Data General LDM800 line-matrix printer (800lpm). http://q7.neurotica.com/Oldtech/VCW/dscn7567-L.jpg http://q7.neurotica.com/Oldtech/Printers/LDM800-1L.jpg Mike Loewen mloewen@cpumagic.scol.pa.us Old Technology http://q7.neurotica.com/Oldtech/
Evan I donated a number of these (III's). http://www.vintagecomputer.net/digital/DEC-Writer-II.jpg Someone local could poss help. I am pretty sure you have greenbar paper there at the museum, Jonas would know where it is. Just attach to a laptop with teraterm or the OS equivalent for a terminal software and print away. IXR can help if you don't have a laptop with a serial connection. Use a NULL modem adapter. We have plenty, but that doesn't mean the printers are in good working condition etc. Jeff J. has no role in our warehouse operations. On Mar 7, 2018 5:32 PM, "Bill Degnan via vcf-midatlantic" < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:

Depends on what you need to print, how much of it, how fast. Are we talking graphics? Text? Do you want dot matrix or formed character? I mean, I have several wide carriage printers kicking around, and some greenbar. Like, would a wide carriage Apple dot matrix printer and a IIe be sufficient, or are you trying to print something that already exists in a modern form and print it on the wide greenbar paper? I could fairly easily hook the printer up to a modern PC and print whatever. Also, Shirley the museum has wide carriage printers in the warehouse, and greenbar. -Ian On Wed, Mar 7, 2018 at 3:22 PM, Evan Koblentz via vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:

What are you doing with Warehouses? ;-) Not sure IXR has any spare laptops (Dna Jacobs might) but I would expect a USB RS232 dongle would work fine. I'm not exactly sure what we're printing with. Is this simply a dump of a file to the printer via RS232? -- Linux Home Automation Neil Cherry ncherry@linuxha.com http://www.linuxha.com/ Main site http://linuxha.blogspot.com/ My HA Blog Author of: Linux Smart Homes For Dummies
Thanks everyone for the helpful replies. I can't say details because I am just beginning to arrange an opportunity for us. First I wanted to make sure we can uphold our end of the deal (printing some text...) before I said yes to the other party. The museum collection has several suitable printers and plenty of 14" greenbar. But most of the printers are in unknown condition and I wouldn't necessarily know how to use them. I will share details when possible. Probably not for a while. On Mar 8, 2018 9:29 AM, "Neil Cherry via vcf-midatlantic" < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:
