Cool, looks like they even setup a period-correct Radio Shack store!
That's good, because Sheldon himself would have pointed out any anachronisms. :) On Jan 7, 2018 8:50 PM, "Peter Cetinski via vcf-midatlantic" < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote: Cool, looks like they even setup a period-correct Radio Shack store!
Sounds like a bit more interesting show than the NatGeo series that revolved around advertising that my Macintosh 128k was in. But it’s nice to see our stuff being included in ‘’mainstream” media. let's see.......it's 1984 Sheldon should've bought a C-64 ;)
I forgot to mention the reason why they wanted a 1000. Turns out there was an episode the main show where adult Sheldon mentions that his first computer was a 1000SL. So they worked that into the spinoff. Kelly emailed me and pointed out that BBT writer/producer Bill Prady worked for The Small Computer Company in the 1980s and had a boss named Howard Wolowitz. SCC made database software for the TRS-80. So, many years later, Prady included that character name and Tandy computers into the TV show.
Sheldon is obviously a very discerning customer :-) On Mon, Jan 8, 2018 at 12:31 PM, Evan Koblentz via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:

The show takes place in 1989. If he's dreaming about a Commodore it would have been an Amiga. ________________________________ From: vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic-bounces@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> on behalf of Jeffrey Brace via vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> Sent: Wednesday, January 17, 2018 6:53 PM To: vcf-midatlantic Cc: Jeffrey Brace Subject: Re: [vcf-midatlantic] TV alert The alternate ending to this episode show him in a parallel universe choosing a Commodore 64 because he knows that it is superior! ;) On Wed, Jan 17, 2018 at 12:51 PM, Evan Koblentz via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:

Of course it was superior! By the way Commodore still make the 64 up until it's demise. It started and stopped production 5 times because of the demand. Can you point to any other computer that did the same?

The Apple IIe comes pretty close, I think? It went all the way up to the end of the Apple II line, even with the IIgs out. - Dave

That's amazing. the 64 was the 3rd computer I ever programmed. Started on an Apple ][+, then ][e, then the 64. All about the same year. Not the same at all, but the TRS80 Model 4 wasn't discontinued until into the 90s. Its last appearance in the catalog was in 1990, but it could be ordered until 1991 or 92 (not sure of the exact date). Weird huh.

Then the IBM PC came out, I used to delight in demonstrating that Wordstar was FASTER on my Model 4 than on the IBM. Mike Loewen mloewen@cpumagic.scol.pa.us Old Technology http://q7.neurotica.com/Oldtech/

Nice touch that the Radio Shack had an entry doorbell. I worked for them for about 6 years from 1995 until 2001, sold the last Tandy we had in the store. If memory serves, it was a 486 SX. We had it on clearance forever at that point, and the boss had a bounty out for its sale. I won. Anyway, great show, and lots of screen time for the venerable Tandy! Really loved the mocked up Radio Shack, too... all the way down to the slat wall and period-correct packaging.
