WTD: Hi-res display for 486 Gaming PC
I find I have given away all of my hi-res VGA displays from the 486 era. I would be willing to trade something of equal value to anyone going to the workshop this weekend. I will be there all day Saturday, from 11AM until 10/11 PM-ish I need something compatible with this card: http://www.vintagecomputer.net/dell/Dimension_XPS-466V/number-nine_GXE_VL_re... in this computer: http://www.vintagecomputer.net/dell/Dimension_XPS-466V/ I have a Dell SuperVGA display, but I don't know if it's really able to take full advantage of my video card. I put a new Dell display on it, that works like it should but it's not vintage. Suggestions welcome but I prefer something from 1993-94 if possible to keep the system and display within the same time frame. Believe it or not, some new displays are not able to match the hz of this video card, it's not just a simple any old VGA card. Thanks Bill

Ooooh, VESA Local Bus. Haven't seen that in a while. :-)

Do you know what the scan rate of the card is? I would be surprised if it really isn't supported by modern displays - it's more likely an issue where the card/OS didn't yet support EDID enumeration and you have to configure the output manually. I could bring a Sony PVM to workshop if you want to test it. On Thursday, January 28, 2016, Devin Heitmueller via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:

Dean, What model of Sony PVM monitor do you have that does VGA Multisync? I was under the impression that the PVM seriers of monitors where NTSC/PAl/SECAM only? On Thu, Jan 28, 2016 at 4:01 PM, william degnan via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:

Is it from 1993-4/available for trade? If so what do you want.

I am guessing some will. I am not that picky as long as the display is "classic crt" looking from the 90's early 2000's and can handle 60 hz. My Dell SuperVGA works, but I am not sure it's giving me the full capabilities of the display card. I don't know everything about this subject, I am interested to hear from any who have a lot of experience in this area. I could bring the system if there is interest, I certainly don't mind at least trying Dean's display, but my goal is to find something like you see on the back cover of Byte September 1993 - the PC is matched up with a Dell 15 inch UltraScan 15FS non-interlaced monitor with 1024 x 768 pixel display.
Good point. I'll check the models when I get home. I suspect they don't do more than 640 x 480 :-( On Thu, Jan 28, 2016 at 4:46 PM, william degnan via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:

Bill, I might well be able to bring a 19" Sony Trinitron CRT. Would that be of interest? - Alex On Fri, Jan 29, 2016 at 9:01 PM, Dean Notarnicola via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:
