PAL Commodore 1702 monitor
So I was unable to find anyone with a PAL C64 or even a PAL VIC-II, so I ordered one from Egypt on eBay because that was the only one that I found available. I plan on using this at HOPE for VCF's exhibit. It cost a pretty penny to buy ($130) and to ship ($70), but at least I have my PAL C64 that I have always wanted. I know many have told me that I can hook up my PAL C64 to any modern LCD monitor, but I was hoping to locate a PAL C64 monitor to be as vintage as possible. Jeff, No, I do not. Just curious, what is the value in having a PAL C64, is there a game or some program that is PAL only? I converted both my PAL C-116 and P500 to NTSC so I could use North American displays. I have a PAL VC-20 (German VIC-20's were renamed VC-20) that I have not converted. I also had a PAL C128D motherboard. It's not too tough of a project to convert, but I assume you want the PAL experience for a specific reason. b

Bill, yes there are specific demos that I want to run that are PAL format. All the best demos are from Europe and are in PAL format. Like this one: < https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEZGt7aaIG4> The latest demos push the C64 to it's limits with incredible sound and graphics that make it look like it is a 16 bit machine. Sure I can run it in an emulator, but I want to run it on a real machine. The theme of HOPE for VCF is to show off vintage computers pushed to the max with hardware and software.
Jeff, I know it will not be the "correct" monitor but you would be better off getting one of the Sony PMV series of monitors with S-Video in and making a Commodore Separate video to Mini Din 4 connector. The original monitor was made by JVC and looks identical except for the logo, but it was always a single standard monitor. Something like the PVM-14N5U would work it has 2 AV inputs each with Composite and S-Video as well as audio. Hi Jeff, There’s a bunch of demos that don’t work on emulators or even on real hardware when there’s a fast loader cartridge present. Among other obscure tricks, they often use the processor in the external disk drive (which is a 6502!) as a coprocessor. A good one to try is the “We Are” demo; see http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=67107 If that one works and shows up correctly you should be good. :) Best, Thomas F.

I agree, you'll need a complete system hardware inventory of a working "modern enhanced Euro demo scene system" to help avoid headaches.
