Re: [vcf-midatlantic] Teams?

Trying something different this year. The show will still have regular exhibits -- lots of 'em! -- but we arranged three "mega exhibits" to honor the 40th anniversary of the Apple II, Commodore PET 2001, and TRS-80 Model 1. These exhibits will be full-ish timelines of ALL vintage computers from those brands, with each team having 4-6 members, several tables, a captain, team name, and a prize for the best team. As discussed by members on the list, the teams are: Commodorians, TRanSistors, and AppleDappleDude.
Is there a VAX/VMS team? It too will be 40 years old as of Oct. 25, 2017.
Ahh, okay.. Hmm.. Sounds fun.. Well, never really was a TRS-80 guy.. so maybe I'll talk to the Commodore or Apple Teams.. On Fri, Dec 16, 2016 at 12:13 PM, Brian Schenkenberger via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:

The mega-exhibit idea is for the big three micros that heralded the appliance era of home computing. But, I strongly encourage you to have a VAX/VMS exhibit and point out the context of 1977!

Changing my answer! YES, there should be a VAX team. We are Vintage COMPUTER Federation, not Vintage MICROCOMPUTER Federation.

I can almost get there. I won't be transporting them, however. -Dave -- Dave McGuire, AK4HZ New Kensington, PA

I'd be in for this, even though I was planning a different individual exhibit. Maybe I can combine them...

Assuming my MicroVAX II still works, it's not terrible to move. And if it actually has a video card, I could combine it with my other planned exhibit. HMM. :) -- Jameel Akari

A "Baby VAXen" exhibit, including a -II, would be great! -Dave -- Dave McGuire, AK4HZ New Kensington, PA

Surely the military vehicle guys can come up with some sort of megawatt generator... :-) Mike Loewen mloewen@cpumagic.scol.pa.us Old Technology http://q7.neurotica.com/Oldtech/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOocjfOh_bI I can go up to 25 kW, 3 phase :D IIRC that one is a 12-lead and will do 480V 3 phase, delta *or* wye! There are a number of smaller 3 phase and single phase machines, too. When the power goes out and you think, "now I get to burn fuel into something other than a dummy load!" Thanks, Jonathan

We could schedule VCF-VAX at Dave McGuire's place. He should have have an extra floor available by next year. :-) Mike Loewen mloewen@cpumagic.scol.pa.us Old Technology http://q7.neurotica.com/Oldtech/
DEC-heads out there: put together a team of 4-6 people, give it a name, pick a captain, and send me the info by next Friday.

as much as I like to see that idea come to fruition, the most mystifying question remains, Would there be enough Pizza and Beer in the world as incentive to enlist enough people to haul heavy computer equipment to the 2nd floor I think most people would tend to agree with Gravity ;) Dan
