To make my job easier, please sign up everyone. I know that there are some people that are coming, but haven't signed up yet. The more pre-registrations the better! VCF volunteers have gone through the warehouse this past weekend and found a number of nice surplus items that will be sold at the swap meet. All proceeds from the swap meet go to the warehouse fund to repair and renovate the warehouse. We are raising money for structural repairs and climate control. Hello! Jeffrey I am planning on attending as a buy/collector./conservator of technology, and bringing two friends, one of whom has an avowed interest in retro technology, and one who is just along for the ride. (He's the driver.) Do you want me to sign for myself, and forward that to the two of them? Or is that for the folks who will be minding a booth? (I confess I just looked at the site, and it answered my question. But I want feedback on it.) ----- Gregg C Levine gregg.drwho8@gmail.com "This signature fought the Time Wars, time and again." Hello Gregg, I'm glad to hear that the three of you are interested and coming to the event! It will be a fun a event and it's nice to see those that likely as much as I and the rest of the group does. If all of you are buyers or just looking, then there is no need to to sign up. Only vendors need to sign up. That is those who are selling things. Thanks! Jeff

I’m building a vintage CPU board and want to get an old-school large crystal. HC-49s I’ve got, so I need one of the older style that are larger. Wire leads are preferable but beggars can’t be choosers. If you have one and are willing to part with it, email me privately. Thanks Bob
Bob, Just curious, is there something special about this crystal? I have two 18's, but no 1.8's. Bill On Wed, Mar 31, 2021 at 3:18 PM Bob Applegate via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:

Hi Bill, It’s the standard crystal for an MC14411 baud rate generator. I use those chips on some of my boards, but my boards are designed for the small HC-49 crystal while this original SWTPC MP-A2 CPU board would look better with the large, old style, crystal. Bob

There are two different packages like the one you describe: HC-6/U and HC-33/U. The former has pins, like for use with a socket, and the latter has wires for direct soldering. I have one of the former style of the frequency you require. You can solder to the pins, but they're not really very flexible if your intention is to mount it horizontally to the PCB. If this one will help you, let me know and it's yours. Perhaps amusingly, I found it in my "random crystals" box and it was likely put in there when I was a kid in the 1970s...so I've had it for a looooong time. ;) -Dave -- Dave McGuire, AK4HZ New Kensington, PA
