All – Through the help of list members Walter Hawkes and Jason Perkins, we were able to move a complete Windows 1.04 development binder set from Ron Herold (also another list member) to NY after VCFE. I have scanned all of the books and manuals (SDK, MSC4, MSC5 and various other manuals) as well as recovered all 39 diskettes (everyone working; no errors). I created a Bochs environment running Windows 1.04 and the SDK, along with MASM 4. Getting the mouse to work was a bear, but it now works. The only software I can’t locate is a version of MS Pascal that’s from the same era. I haven’t tried to build any software with it yet, but if someone wants to give it a try, I can make the Bochs configuration available. At some point I’d like to put together a Web page for it. I should add that a huge thanks should go to Ron, Jason and Walter working the hand-off. The materials were in a copy box, so not light by any stretch of the imagination. Thanks guys! A great piece of history saved! Rich, you should exhibit this as VCF East XII next year. :)
Sweet! It looked like Ron had stored the items carefully, I imagine that contributed to the disks still being in good shape. -J On Sat, May 21, 2016 at 6:28 PM, Evan Koblentz via vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:

Absolutely. Storage conditions are very important. Also, I find that the "older" disks are of better quality and hold the magnetic image better. I forget the technical term - coercivity maybe. Absolutely 0 read errors on disks 30 years old. I made images and also extracted contents to zip files. Thanks for being part of the bucket brigade getting the box to NY. Most of the docs are in binders so running them through the high volume scanner at work was a snap. Probably 500mb of scans in total because they weren't purely black and white. It occurred to me, next year is the 40th anniversary of the introduction of the TRS-80 Model I and those 2 "other machines." :) We should plan a big showing of Model Is and I guess 1 of each of those other 2 machines. :) Tom

Since my first computer was a Model 1, I was planning a Tandy exhibit for the next VCF. As my collection has several holes it and, and considering the 40th anniversary, maybe a bunch of us enthusiasts could team up to do it justice? Dean's post about a combined Tandy exhibit gave me an idea: the show still must have its share of regular exhibits, but I challenge the members of this group to put on three meta-exhibits in which there is one of EVERY computer from Apple, Commodore, and Tandy. Beyond that, what's in each exhibit is up to your creativity. Clones, modern mods, prototypes, peripherals, documentation, magazines, etc. .... there will be a special prize for the winning group. Guidelines: please no more than five people per exhibit so it doesn't canibalize the other exhibits too much; each exhibit crew (once established) should make their own off-list way of communicating for their logistics (I suggest email lists or wikis, but the point is don't do your detail planning here on the main list); we'll try to pick a neutral judge. Go!
I forgot to mention a vital point: each of the three teams should have one each of every computer for their brand, but nothing too new. :) Also, once a team picks one of the three brands, then that brand is off the table. So choose your teammates wisely.

I thought a combined effort was a great idea when I read deans message. I had already planned my exhibit for next year (and started acquiring the couple things I want to add to it) but I'd love to do this. Anyone who's an "Apple guy" feel free to reach out to me. Other than an apple I, I can do 1 of every apple II and all the compact macs from the 128k through the se/30. Clones, peripherals, got lots so let's go! Tony

I've always hoped we'd have award like "return from the grave" category - best restoration with an exhibit that documents the process and educates how to restore machines to boot. Just so there are no misunderstandings, I was not offering to bring my Tandy stuff again. I was just showing my old 30th anniv. exhibit as a FYI to those who may not have seen it then. Can't believe it has been that long since I did that exhibit. b -- @ BillDeg: Web: vintagecomputer.net Twitter: @billdeg <https://twitter.com/billdeg> Youtube: @billdeg <https://www.youtube.com/user/billdeg> Unauthorized Bio <http://www.vintagecomputer.net/readme.cfm>
Wow, good timing on this thread. I just picked up a complete Model I system yesterday that I though would make a great show display. I just posted about it on the forum. http://www.vcfed.org/forum/showthread.php?52600-TRS-80-Model-I-System-Time-C...

I'd say a PowerBook is borderline.
PowerBook Duos are rather interesting machines and probably would make sense as part of an early Mac or early notebook/subnotebook exhibit, in my opinion. I'm getting my 280c and my 2300c into working shape finally. I managed to pick up a large stash of parts some years ago; feel free to reach out if you need anything. I would like to possibly get the Commodore team going. I have a fairly good collection that spans PET through 128. I was wondering if the Guru Meditation guys Anthony and Bill would be interested in teaming up so we could cover almost all of Commodore? If someone has a KIM-1, that would be a great addition too, and possibly a few of the other obscure items. So, where are the Commodore experts???
