Slightly off topic (retro telephony)
Anyone have resources to duplicate / copy a 16 MB PCMCIA memory card to fresh media? It's from a vintage AT&T Definity telephone system Underlying operating system is ORYX, applications are written in PECOS.

I have laptops with PCMCIA slot where I assume I could use dd to copy the contents of one card and write it to another as an image. I don't have PCMCIA memory cards to test with. If you are needing the contents changed to adapt to the new card I don't have software for that. Also if standards for them changed over time old cards may not work.

I've got a PCMCIA -> IDE adapter specifically intended for PCMCIA Flash disks. I may have a spare Flash disk or two. I can at least duplicate it over to a CF card, which you could use in a CF -> PCMCIA adapter. Thanks, Jonathan
I sent a note to a friend who administers Avaya equipment to see if he can get a new image for one of these systems. -J On Wed, Feb 15, 2017 at 7:35 AM, Systems Glitch via vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:

I have a AT&T Merlin Legend at home to run our collection of vintage phones... similar situation that I haven't dealt with all these years later. Someday that card is liable to fail and take the "OS" with it. I have a second/spare card for it that I'll throw in a laptop and see if it's readable. We had Definity G3s at work back in the day but I wasn't able to haul that home. ;) -- Jameel Akari On Wed, 15 Feb 2017, Jason Perkins via vcf-midatlantic wrote:

Merlin Legend should have the software "internal" to the Processor card, with the PCMCIA slot just used for doing backups or doing system upgrades. I believe some voice mail cards use PCMCIA cards as well, but the higher end ones went to notebook hard drives IIRC. Still worth it to back EVERYTHING up. I still have a hard drive I pulled from my Merlin Legend MAP40 Audix computer (It runs Unix with the voice mail system for Legend) and the ISA voice cards. I also have the floppy set from the 386 Xenix based Audix system that goes with the Legend as well. I need to archive it all and set it free. I've been looking for a Merlin Legend in the DC area for my friends for a while, so far none have turned up. Hope to load it with analog w/ ring gen cards for modems. - Ethan

Ah yes, I think you're right. And it may be SRAM, but still.

Absolutely. And I'd love to upgrade to somewhat newer code if that's floating around and can be imaged. Sounds like we've got something to talk about off-list.

I haven't ever tried the Audix box that came with this switch. It's like 12x12x8" with a wall bracket. Sounds like it may be like yours?

Alas, 8 or 9 years ago I could have got you one in Chadd's Ford or Richmond, but that's long gone. -- Jameel Akari

I have some sorta "red" Merlin Legend PCMCIA card that is for upgrading the system to a later version. IIRC they're SRAM cards? I'm not sure if it would work but the cards are technically IDE (there are those CF card to PCMCIA that are just straight through wires, so I'd assume you could go PCMCIA to IDE with just straight through wires.) So if you could get one physically wired to a linux host you should be able to DD the card?
