<---is this necessary?
Question to the list moderator. We've posted in the "subject" line, the phrase "[vcf-midatlantic]" for some time now. But a recent post did not have that phrase, and apparently it at least made the Web archive for the list. Evan - it's your call. Is this phrase really necessary, or desirable? Herb -- Herbert R. This is configurable in Mailman. Please, please, PLEASE don't get rid of it. And before anyone suggests sorting incoming email using the proper list headers instead, that's not why it's there, and it's not why I (personally) want it to remain. -Dave -- Dave McGuire, AK4HZ New Kensington, PA

Yes and yes. The list is configured to add the prefix automatically. It * can * be configured not to do so, but as Dave noted there are many people (including me) who use it for message filtering rules.

To be clear, I don't use it for filtering rules. Those should use the proper list identification headers; that's what they're for. But due to the importance of this list to me, I don't shunt this traffic off to another folder upon receipt; it hits my main mail spool. That mail spool receives about 200 messages per day, and the list tag in the subject line allows me to quickly and without really thinking about it identify a given message as being relevant to this mailing list in my message list display window. -Dave -- Dave McGuire, AK4HZ New Kensington, PA

I use headers and subject lines because sometimes one or the other doesn't trigger my filters.
Oh, weird, I wonder why that would be? -Dave -- Dave McGuire, AK4HZ New Kensington, PA

I think enough headers gets anyone triggered :) But you can name the List Server something short like this, [VCFed] in case the subject line was getting truncated
I vote keep it as it is. On Wed, Feb 1, 2017 at 7:05 PM, Dan Roganti via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:

Definitely considering a short prefix, probably [VCF-MA] as Ethan suggested. It would definitely NOT be [VCFed]. I reminded you offlist the other day that this is but one of many things (and hopefully someday of many chapters) in the Federation.
