[OT] Anyone Interested in Building a New Atari XE/XL Mini ITX Board?
All, If anyone else is interested in building a new Atari motherboard, and would like to do a group buy for components, or the blank PCBs, themselves, drop me a line. I’ve been following this project for months, and it has produced an amazing result: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/261147-1088xel-alternative-mother-board-pro... <http://atariage.com/forums/topic/261147-1088xel-alternative-mother-board-project/page-43> The BoM, from DigiKey, is here (page 41): http://atariage.com/forums/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&a... I’m willing to make the orders, and mail out (or hand out) the PCBs. I can also order components, if anyone wants. Thanks! - Alex

Woohoo, it's available? :-D I am so interested! I'll look at the links a bit later. I'm programming in Python and need to walk a complex JSON structure so my mind is a bit warped at the moment. I need to check it against another JSON structure (with Wildcard and optional and required checks). So I'm slight Dain Bread. -- Linux Home Automation Neil Cherry ncherry@linuxha.com http://www.linuxha.com/ Main site http://linuxha.blogspot.com/ My HA Blog Author of: Linux Smart Homes For Dummies
Sorry, a little too quick on the reply, meant that to be private to Alex. I'll send it private also. -- Linux Home Automation Neil Cherry ncherry@linuxha.com http://www.linuxha.com/ Main site http://linuxha.blogspot.com/ My HA Blog Author of: Linux Smart Homes For Dummies
Wow, as if on queue, someone is offering a complete kit ETA soon): MacRorie <http://atariage.com/forums/user/16779-macrorie/> has just posted a reply to a topic that you have subscribed to titled "1088XEL Alternative Mother-Board Project". I ordered 50 boards last night. Should be able to sell them for about $10/board + shipping. I went through and totaled up the BOM. It looks like a kit that includes *everything* (including buying UAVs from Bryan, U1MB from Lotharek, Chips from Best/B&C), it will be in the $300 range. UNASSEMBLED. What does anyone think? I definitely couldn’t get the custom chips, or the U1MB board, so you’d be on your own for those. - Alex

At first I felt kind of sad because I thought people were jamming X86 ATX boards into Atari 130XE cases... but after looking at the board, that is cool! Wish someone would recad the Amiga 3000 and Amiga 2000 mobos. I wouldn't mind a board, looking at the BOM I think ordering in bulk from Digikey is the expensive way to go. That $15 RS232 to TTL widget could probably be had for $3 direct from MFGr. Might be a few other parts that could be trimmed down. I would be interested in a board I think, even though I'm slow at finishing projects. Just nearly getting to the "go time" with my S100 CF interface board that I've been sitting on for 4 years now.
