Help me to understand this ebay auction
https://www.ebay.com/itm/174857904262 IBM 5160 - "Steve Jobx" um. $400 shipping $1299 starting bid.
Bill I honestly don’t know if you’re being sarcastic or if you’re truly asking to, “help understand this auction.” But as most auctions go on eBay; they sell items that don’t work, “not tested”, And broken, these items are absolutely useless in most cases. The seller wants to get the most money for the items. I can only assume that eBay has no way of weeding out these lowlife characters, selling absolute garbage. I could go on using expletives but I will refrain from doing that here. Mike R. Sent from: My extremely complicated, hand held electronic device.

I think I am going to place a bid. It seems expensive but I trust this guy that if the price is what it is, it must be a good deal. I hope I am doing the right thing. The last time I bought an ENIAC computer it turned out not to be an ENIAC. What a waste of $700 plus $2000 shipping. On Tue, Jul 27, 2021 at 9:52 PM William Sudbrink <wh.sudbrink@gmail.com> wrote:

looks like someone outbid me already, oh well. ...of course those who know me know I am just poking fun of this auction. This is one of the most ridiculous auctions I have seen in a while. On Tue, Jul 27, 2021 at 9:56 PM Bill Degnan <billdegnan@gmail.com> wrote:

Well, if it's missing one of the cork foot pads here's a deal for you: https://www.ebay.com/itm/114527219315 . Only about $15 with shipping. Marc On Tue, Jul 27, 2021 at 7:27 PM Bill Degnan via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:

That actually makes the most sense for that weirdness. $400 for shipping? After the care that's been taken of that thing. -- Linux Home Automation Neil Cherry ncherry@linuxha.com http://www.linuxha.com/ Main site http://linuxha.blogspot.com/ My HA Blog Author of: Linux Smart Homes For Dummies
Hahahahahhahahah Oh man, I didn't expect to see this here! This is a joke listing from a friend of mine. What you're seeing here is an intentionally garbage yard-find of a machine using many of the tropes typically found on out-of-touch ebay listings. The only thing it's missing is RARE, GOLD. -Alexander 'Z' Pierson On Wednesday, July 28, 2021, 12:08:53 AM EDT, Neil Cherry via vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote: On 7/27/21 9:52 PM, William Sudbrink via vcf-midatlantic wrote:

Good morning all I do not wish to intentionally start something here, but... I had seen some emails directed to all on this list about OFF TOPIC SUBJECTS. I believe this qualifies as such a topic. I like to poke fun and complain about eBay sellers also. (that’s why I never sell on eBay) But enough already! I must say that when I send emails that are on-topic, I receive little or no positive responses. This concerns me to the point that some people on this list are not willing to help a person who has little knowledge about older and home made computer related items? I do have to thank the few people who have helped me in the past with C64, monitor and Amiga issues! I am disappointed in the lack of responses, though, considering the group that this is. Yes I am on a rant, but it had to be said, eventually. Thank you Mike R. Sent from: My extremely complicated, hand held electronic device.
