Here's a good thread about rebuilding the NeXT after replacing a dead battery http://www.nextcomputers.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3475&sid=9630ef34e48339e... I am looking also to see if one has a *working* battery how to back up the configuration to diskette or the network or something before the battery dies so one can resume without a big thing to rebuild the machine config, trying to guess everything I did to get it just right. I found that you go into the NeXT ROM monitor and run the p command to configure. After you remove the battery the system defaults to boot off the network, so you'll have to change the system to boot from the SCSI drive which they call sd. I have more details on my site.
