Thank you to all for a great VCF Weekend!
We wanted to thank Evan, Jeff, Ian, Eric & the many, many others at VCF who were so welcoming to Connor (age 10) this weekend at the Jan. VCF workshop. He had a great time learning from everyone and is already asking when the next VCF event will be that he can attend. Special thanks to Evan for the invitation & introductions, Eric for time teaching programming BASIC graphics, to Ian for resourcefulness to fix the ImageWriter II print head, and to person who brought Apple IIGS games. Since the workshop, Connor has spent all Sat night and all day Sunday programming in BASIC, including his new print program and playing Kings Quest on the Apple IIgs! He also enjoyed seeing the other computers and has been researching Tandy & Commodore computers as well. Thank you again for being so welcoming & inspiring interest in vintage computers! - Connor S. & Family
C.J., I'm glad that Connor and yourself enjoyed the workshop! Most of us grew up with these vintage computers, so we know them well. It is great that younger people like Connor are interested in the hobby. This is part of our mission to keep the history and hobby alive with the next generation. It is refreshing to see a 10 year old have interesting in 8 bit micros in a world of smartphones, X-box and the latest wintel machine. Please don't hesitate to let us know how we can support you. We love these vintage machines and love to share them with others. -- Jeff On Sun, Jan 14, 2018 at 10:23 PM, C.J. C.J. It was a pleasure meeting you and Connor. He is a very polite young man! One of the things I enjoy about being involved with this group is dealing with the younger generation and watching kids get excited and interested the way I was at that age with these same machines. Apple computers are my thing, so it's nice when I get to meet someone interested in my favorite computers and can help them with software, hardware and information! If Connor's interests spread to Commodores and Tandy machines he's in the right group, as we have members with the knowledge and interest to help him take his interest as far as he wants! If you two attend one of the workshops in the future I'll be sure to prepare ahead of time and bring more stuff for his iigs! Tony Bogan
The next workshop will be March 3 & 4. On Mon, Jan 15, 2018 at 10:28 AM, Tony Bogan via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:
