Festivus potential first timer
Hello all, I'm thinking about coming to my first Festivus. I don't really know much about it or the processes around it. Would driving in on Saturday morning and leving mid-day Sunday provide me a good Festivus experience? When do people usually arrive to start the Festivus? Is it a workshop type of thing? Or more social? (I have never been to a workshop in NJ, just one at System Source.) I do have an IMSAI 8080 that troubles me. I saw the food sign up sheet, and saw there is the local accomodations overnight. How late to people usually stay up? Thanks! - Ethan O'Toole
Ethan, some people do one day, some do both. All depends on what works for your schedule. It’s usually over by ~4:00pm on Sunday. This is mostly a social gathering, but we are all computer aficionados (I’m being overly generous here!!) so inevitably stuff gets worked on too. Mostly stuff that people sell/buy/trade and then of course have to play with......I mean test to make sure it works. Since I live local I’m usually there both days depending on my work schedule. Many stay on site in the overnight accommodations and are up till all hours, some stay at local hotels. Myself I just go home for the night since I’m only 20 minutes away. A lot of people can only make one day or the other, it’s all about having fun and hanging out. Tony Sent from my iPhone

Do it! Lots of fun.

Yes. Officially it starts 10am Saturday, but sometimes people come and hang out Friday night. Not sure if I can do that this year. If people want to then Jeff or I will try to enable it.

It is a holiday party. It is not a workshop or a swapfest. But, us being nerds, inevitably these things happen. We try to keep it under control because, again, it is a party. :) A little work here and there is one thing. It would not be appropriate to tear into a machine and set up a workbench there.

You need to sign up and pay and let me know what you are going to bring. It is fun! Food, beer, vintage computer nerds, vintage video games. It is very Festive. VCF East and Festivus are the two biggest events for our group.

Yes. When do people usually arrive to start the
Festivus?
Usually people start to arrive around noon and it increases steadily towards late afternoon. Saturday night from around 5PM onwards to 1AM is the prime time. Sunday is a bit slower.

Social. Some trade and sell, but it is primarily social.

1, 2, 3 AM. Some later. Accomdations are basic and in the Sandy dorm which is next to the cafeteria and main festive area.
Thanks!
