[NON-Text Body part not included] For the 80s bedroom do you have one of those ubiquitous "computer desks" that were everywhere? With the book space or whatever across the top of the back hutch, and the place for the disk drives to the side of the monitor? - Ethan

This is a fantastic idea for an exhibit, cant wait to see it Bill
We wish we had one of those desks. We are looking for one for donation if someone has one in decent condition. We decided to go for a recycled table from Tony which my wife covered the worn surface in wood grain shelf paper. Kind of like the kid who got hand me down furniture for his computer desk. We did want to have some of the wood grain shelf paper look like it’s peeling off and have some “duckie” shelf paper exposed underneath, but couldn’t find the paper. Oh well my parents did that to me once, just once.... Cheers, Corey corey cohen uǝɥoɔ ʎǝɹoɔ Sent from my iPhone

The exhibit is a solid 8.5/10 and one of these awful desk/hutch things would make it 9.9/10. I'll keep an eye out for one. My feeling is that most people trashed them, and for good reason. My family's barely made it through one move. I kept it a while longer, putting a pound of drywall screws into it to try to keep it together, but it succumbed to Terrible Cheap 80s Particleboard Syndrome while I was in college. It probably wouldn't have been at a kid's computer desk, but I remember these kneeling chairs being real popular, briefly: http://i.imgur.com/uHKrznlh.jpg I have a cheaper metal-framed version that I'd be happy to part with. Though that may be more 90s.

Jameel, I’m still searching for the right chair! In my computer room in the 80s (right next to my father’s office in the house) I always had some form of wheeled desk chair. We’ve had a family business in the same location since the 1930s, and lived only a couple miles from work. So, we always got stuff from work to use at home and vice versa. The table currently being used was from some relatives house that got stored in one of the buildings at work (we all have furniture and stuff there from over the years) that’s been sitting up there for decades, and it was the right size for the space if not the right item. I’m confident I can find someone’s old dining room wooden 80s chair like so many of us used to go with it. The search continues. Next up is the office desk. I’m not looking forward to having to lug it down a flight of steps to load into the van! While I’m pleased We have been able to help Corey realize his vision for these two exhibits, I’m still trying to figure out a way to make him have to carry the heavy stuff! ;-) Tony Sent from my iPhone

I just saw one at the local thrift store two weeks ago and chuckled. They're probably more common than the computers we're after. We had the Bush Industries one. I still think it's kinda cool looking but got rid of it like 14 years ago. - Ethan
How 80’s does this look? No Hutch but not every desk had a hutch. I think I had one similar to this in the 80’s https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JYQXPZ1/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_oGfoEbQN0T6C4 <https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JYQXPZ1/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_oGfoEbQN0T6C4> It’s new so we won’t have to worry about the glue in the particle board which could actually contain some “bad” stuff.

Actually I take it back. It seems too small I think we need bigger than 33 inches wide to accommodate a monitor and printer.

That would be great if we were only doing a C64. My worry is that if we do another machine where you use a TV (like many of us did instead of a monitor), it may not fit in the cutout since they tended to be wider because of the tuner area.

When I was in the Army in the mid 80s, I had a standard wood desk with side drawers, and a matching wooden chair, sitting along a wooden twin bed frame, not unlike the attached picture. My C64, 1541, and GE color television took up the entire desktop. It's not too far-fetched to compare that to a kid's bedroom set of furniture of the era. If you look at this Radio Shack catalog page (http://www.radioshackcatalogs.com/html/catalogs_extra/1985_rsc-14/h061.html)) I had the desk/hutch/printer setup for a long time, but then I changed to the "computer workcenter" in this 1987 Radio Shack catalog (http://www.radioshackcatalogs.com/html/catalogs_extra/1987_rsc-17/h049.html). I can't exactly remember why I changed, but I had my Mac on it for years, probably to raise it higher to make it easier to see. The other desk got repurposed in another room upon which I had a Compaq DeskPro/386 (which I still have, as with my original Mac 512k). I had a decent sized room -- 12' x 12' with wood paneling, two twin beds and a shag-like carpet. I remember that for posters, I mostly had cars (Ferrari, Lambo) and a pinup or two. Dad didn't like me pasting things on the "pecky cypress" wood paneling. The ceiling was 12" square Armstrong acoustic tiles with fluorescent lighting. I wish I had a picture of it. Excellent example of the period. I didn't have a modern desk in the early 80s. I was living at home and just had some crappy old wooden desk - a hand-me-down from the 60s or 70s. Thinking back to wall decor, one thing I _did_ have was the "Adventure" poster from CompuServe. It was an item you could purchase in the Compuserve "Mall" and came rolled up, B&W, and ready to color. My original was long lost - I think pet damage, but I found this discussion and a link to high-res images (7MB PDF and 28MB JPG): http://www.club.cc.cmu.edu/~ajo/in-search-of-LONG0751/readme.html BTW, the Rubik's Cube in the present display is a nice touch. Thumbs up there (I still carry one around in my bag for twisting in airports and on airplanes - unlike a cell phone, I don't need a connection and the batteries never run flat) -ethan
