VAXstations in NJ
A friend of mine in central NJ got ill over the summer and needs to clear some space at home. He has a bunch of VMS-capable hardware, serial terminals, and some other DEC gear to re-home. If you'd be interested in any of: VAXstation 2000, 3100, 4000 mod 60 microVAX 3800, uVAX II in a BA123 DECserver 300 DECstation 3100 several VT320 ttys, possibly also a VT240 and a VT420 two Wyse ttys LA50 printer VR260, VR319 monitors let me know, and I'll see what's still available. Pick-up would be in Plainfield, NJ.

Before anyone jumps on this, the museum may need some of it, perhaps the terminals....
Does the museum have any running VMS or VAX BSD systems, and if so, what's the hardware? Evan Koblentz via vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> writes:

None currently running, but there are a few nice VAXen available for restoration: - 1 VAX 11/750 (condition mostly unknown), in the warehouse - 1 VAX 11/785 (missing CPU boards and probably others), on display in the museum There may be a MicroVAX or two in the warehouse, possibly more than I remember. There was definitely an AlphaServer 2100, but while that can run VMS, I suspect you were more interested in VAXen. The 11/785 is a long-term loan from a member, but I imagine he might give permission to fix it up in the unlikely event that someone comes up with an 11/785 boardset. Of course, then we'd need to get 3-phase power run into the museum room... - Dave

That would be me. If a restoration plan were to be put together, we could certainly discuss it.

I have the board set for that machine here.

It can be run on single-phase power (though quite a lot of it) with a minor, reversible modification. -Dave -- Dave McGuire, AK4HZ New Kensington, PA

Yeah, I knew that, just didn't want to name names without asking. :-)

Knew that, too, though either way we'd need new/additional circuits and having three-phase in there for larger machines is probably a good idea. - Dave

I appreciate it.

Yes, it'd take quite a bit of power one way or the other. And then there's disk/tape on top of that. But just keep that modification in mind; I don't mind that being done *by an electronics-savvy person* in order to get the machine running. A functioning 11/785 will be a big draw for a certain class of people. -Dave -- Dave McGuire, AK4HZ New Kensington, PA

Do you have a 11/785 running at the LSSM, Dave? I don't remember. Mike Loewen mloewen@cpumagic.scol.pa.us Old Technology http://q7.neurotica.com/Oldtech/

There's a complete 11/785 at LSSM, but it's not yet functional. It has seen just the very start of some restoration work. With temperatures dropping rapidly, I think that work will be picking up soon. =) The same goes for the 11/750 and 11/730. -Dave -- Dave McGuire, AK4HZ New Kensington, PA

We have a /750 too. Our plan upon setting up the new exhibit back in springtime was to show this instead of the /785, but the /750 was not ready for public display. IIRC Tony and Jeff Galinat tried hard to get its front door installed but it wouldn't line up correctly. Dave, is there still a chance you could attend Festivus? If so then maybe you could figure out the warped hinge mechanism.
Dave, Remember that I have your 3174 and I was hoping you could pick it up at Festivus. Dean On Fri, Nov 11, 2016 at 6:02 PM Evan Koblentz via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:

I'd be interested in the vt240 if it is still available. Anything dec pro as well... Sent from my iPhone
