Just wanted say its been another great event. Wouldn't miss it for the world. There were great keynote speakers, so many good classes, as well as great exhibits this year. Something to enjoy in all corners of those event. In addition, it's always nice to see familiar faces again and I'm happy to see new ones. This is how this group stays vibrant and alive. This had become my annual pilgrimage for a decade and hope I can for another decade. Kudos to the VCF board, Evan, Corey and Jeff for masterminding another year with an event full of activities. I know they put up with a lot of crap from us, including myself :) But I think it's all for the betterment of this group. And a special thanks to the 'boots-on-the-ground' volunteers that helped make this possible.

Well sadly I missed it, but I really couldn't fit the time in to escape from the UK as I was teaching Thursday last week and Tuesday next. I consoled myself with getting my PC/Server 500 with P/390 card to boot to OS/2. I guess now time to try VM. I am sure though that those who went had a great time. Dave Wade

Fantastic. I have LIC images, etc for those boards if you need them. I run mine as R/390s, hosted in RS/6000s, so it can live headless in a rack where it belongs. ;)

Likewise. I wish I could've gone; I was depressed all weekend because I couldn't be there with everyone. I just had way too much stuff going on for work, and some health issues. My typical exhibits take many weeks to prepare and thousands of dollars to execute, and it just wasn't in the cards for this time. Next year. -Dave -- Dave McGuire, AK4HZ New Kensington, PA

We were wondering how would we get soap. Some people seriously needed soap.

Yeah. Autumn's brick-and-mortar store is open now; she'll have to find someone to man that store in order to do another VCF. That adds to the hassle, but she'd probably be willing next year.

You know, I've always wondered about that. I don't know about anyone else, but I was brought up to believe that I'm disrespecting both myself and my friends if I show up somewhere smelling like I live in a barn. It's just not all that hard to take a damn shower. Either find a way to show up clean and presentable, or don't show up! -Dave -- Dave McGuire, AK4HZ New Kensington, PA
It's not as bad as it used to be. I remember the Trenton Computer Fest in the early 80's. It rained one year and all the exhibit and flea market halls reeked of B.O. and wet dog. No kidding. I had a boss who "didn't believe in deodorant." Not that he came from some culture where they don't use it or something. It was embarassing to go to meetings with clients in the summer. I wonder if they'll be passing out free soap at HOPE again this time... Thanks, Jonathan
I also had a great VCF. I always come with questions and leave with answers and more questions. I want the VCF board, the volunteers, and my fellow exhibitors to know that I really appreciate the time and energy you put into this event. I wish i could participate in more events but I’m always happy to brag about the knowledge base held by my Federation comrades while out in the real. Thanks all and see you next year! Ben

Thank you from my son Alex and I. We really enjoyed our first exhibit and you guys put on an awesome show. Not a complaint, just an observation, but the only issue we had was that the power in the old building seems to be a little flaky and caused one of my machines to spuriously reboot from time to time. May just be a finicky PS board in that machine but I’ve never seen it happen before. I’ll have to remember to bring a UPS next time. :)

That's why I was supposed to have everyone sign liability forms... the room down the ramp is from WW2, nicer room up the ramp is more than 100 years old, and we (Federation) don't own the buildings so there is little we can do about it.

I love the WW II building and one the high-lights for me was when I got to climb the ladder to unplug the extension cords and drop them through the ceiling. I want to work in building like that. Ben

We would be all wise to consider UPSs for particularly important equipment. Its good you brought that up.

FWIW, the campus is actually on a brand-new transformer; the old one (which I think predated WWII) met its end at the hands of Hurricane Sandy. The new power system is actually quite an improvement! That, of course, doesn't mean the lines might not be noisy, especially for the long drops we use to get power into the hall. Bringing a UPS might be a generally good idea for most folks, because it'll filter the power better and provide a lot more protection against surges just in case. - Dave

True.* I meant the wiring in the building and who-knows-what-else the Army did. ------ * Technically it was the ordinary storm that happened a few weeks after Sandy that did it. Obviously, Sandy weakened it.

Actually it was the repair work done by the power company for Sandy that caused the failure in the next storm.

I would like to add that it was an honor to be able to exhibit at VCF for the first time. Last year was the first VCF I ever attended, and seeing all the wonderful exhibits was a big inspiration to me. Being primarily a Commodore guy with limited experience, I wasn't sure if I would be able to think of a theme that would be worth doing. Thanks to my partners Doug C. and Todd G., it seemed to work. I wouldn't have been able to do it without them. I had a crazy little idea, and their implementations were outstanding!!! It was a very worthwhile experience that I will cherish. I hope to be able to participate again at future VCFs. Thanks, Chris Fala
Agreed! My second time making it to a VCF, and I'm hooked. I brought 3 friends/new attendees and the discussion kept coming up about "what to exhibit next year!" Good seeing people from the community again, and the event re-invigorates my enthusiasm for the subject. Missed seeing some of the awesome things from last time, but great seeing the new things! Thanks to everyone that helped make it happen!
The Atlanta crowd is heading back to the southeast, but I think I can speak for the four of us and say it was another great VCF E. Thanks to everyone who made it an enjoyable festival! It was good catching up with those who I only see once or twice a year, and sorry that I missed some of the regulars who couldn't attend this year. Kyle

Sadly, due to other commitments, my time at the event was limited - I had to leave saturday @ 1.30pm. Boo! That being said, all of the exhibits were fun, all doing something interesting and different, thank you all for taking the time to bring together all of the demos. The speakers were also great. I didn't get a chance to see the museum, but I assume Evan was giving scheduled tours? A couple of highlights: 1. Friday - Ian's CRT talk - that was great. 2. Please forgive me - I cannot remember the guys name, and I cannot find his bio on the VCF site exhibitors list...... but the guy who brought the large collection of processing cards in the tall wooden frames, and the gyroscope, power supplies etc, I won't mention the specific application - just because...... but you know who you are. I really liked this. Thank you for taking the time to answer my insane questions, good luck with the project! Jeff Jonas had something interesting going on with Core memory, I didn't get a chance to talk, maybe we can catch up at the next workshop. I had way too many cool things to see, and just not enough time. Is someone going to create a combined list of YouTube videos? So we can all catchup? - Steve On Mon, Apr 18, 2016 at 8:06 AM, Bob Flanders via vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:

No, most of the time we just left it open for anyone who wanted to visit.

Yes but it's going to take a while. I have to wait to receive all the footage.

Wish I could have met more people in-person, but the crowds made that hard - OTOH, crowds are not a bad problem to have here. Likewise I have a renewed interest in some niches, knowing that others are into them, or that a given subject is under-represented. Thanks to everyone who makes this happen. -- Jameel Akari
