Large collection of Sam's "PhotoFact" service manuals on CL near York, PA
There's a Craigslist ad for them: https://york.craigslist.org/ele/d/york-sams-photofact-service-manuals/782390... After I noticed this ad, I asked the Internet Archive if they wanted them, but apparently they're already set. But it wouldn't be a bad idea for another institution to acquire and keep this collection so that it doesn't just disappear. (I can't, I'm way past merely "out of space".) ---rsk
The subject matter is out of our scope, but maybe the Radio and Television History folks would be interested? On Mon, Feb 24, 2025 at 8:59 AM Rich Kulawiec via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:

I don't believe they Radio and TV museum is interested in them. I offered many banker's boxes of SAMs Photofacts to them and they didn't want them. I think they have their own resources for copies. Since the CL ad is for books, not the packets like I had, I may be incorrect in my assumption. I live about 10 minutes away from the CL location. Hi, I'm a member of the NJARC. I contacted the president, he asked me to reach out to the CL guy to see what/how much he has. we have a member who does a lot of scanning of schematics, he might be interested. York is about 2.5 hours from me. I see Jeff mentioned he is 10 minutes away. I don't know how often you get to IA, but if the club decides to grab them and I can't get there fast enough maybe you can help us? Maybe we can meet half way somewhere so you aren't stuck with them forever. Let me see what I can find out from the guy. I appreciate that this was posted and shared, despite it being somewhat off topic for the list. Matt, The location listed on the CL ad is basically halfway on the path between where I live and my parent's house. I can pick these up on the way to visiting them if NJARC is interested in acquiring them. I will be at IA the weekend of March 8 and 9 for our monthly Workshop event. When I closed my TV shop, I had number 1 through 3000 Sam’s photo facts in the file cabinets. If I remember correctly, I sold the entire set for $500 back in the early 2000s. Now I have Sam’s CB manuals number one through 300 for sale at some point. Sent from: My extremely complicated, hand held electronic device.

A friend (Shawn, probably on the list) ended up with a few filing cabinets of old Sams guides. I was wondering if all of it has been scanned. It looks like capitalists bought the IP and run a website selling downloads of them. Not sure if they enforce the copyright? Internet archive has scans of Sams photofact stuff so I guess not? Shawn said the issue with scanning was needing large format scanners for the fold out stuff. Anyways, hope it all gets scanned and made available! - Ethan
Ethan, I know a slight bit about that topic too. Before they were in books, they were in the folders, meant to be stored in cabinets like you are referring to. Evidently copyright expired/wasn't renewed on folders 1-671. The radio club has those available free for any member of our club. Evidently 672 onward are still protected under copyright (and I'm not getting into any discussion on the enforcement and all that!) The club also has copies up to folder 1140 which the club members can reference (again, i'm not part of the enforcement arm of that). No idea on where these particular books would fall.
