By now some of you have heard about the massive fire that just took out an entire block here in New Kensington. I'm sending this out because are phones are dead from having blown up all day over this. We are fine. There was no damage to the museum, which is on the adjacent block. Building 2 is right across the alley from the block that burned. (that's where Autumn and I live and work) That building filled up with smoke and was without power for much of the afternoon and evening. Power is back on and we are getting it cleared now; if it's cleared enough by later tonight we'll be able to sleep at home. We evacuated our cats (nine of 'em) to the museum for the time being. Suboptimal but it's the best we can do. -Dave -- Dave McGuire, AK4HZ New Kensington, PA
Thanks for the update, glad you're all ok! On Thu, Sep 13, 2018 at 10:52 PM Dave McGuire via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:

Whew, yes. Good to hear that you both, the kitties, and museum all pulled through. Andy On Thu, Sep 13, 2018, 11:03 PM Dean Notarnicola via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:

Thanks for the update. That's terrible for your town, but fortunate for you + the crew. Does smoke damage anything?
This will give a little perspective to those who have been to the museum. This is looking down 9th Street on the corner of 4th ave. The museum is don one build to the left in this shot. Sent from my iPhone

Dave, so glad you two (actually you eleven!) are all ok. I’m obviously pleased to hear that your work/living space and autumns store along with the museum were not damaged (smoke damage sucks but pales in comparison to fire damage!!) but the main concern was you two. I watched some of the video when I got home. My son asked if that was where I had just visited and showed me the video. Ugh I got that stomach tightening feeling when I saw where it was. Once again I’m very pleased to hear you guys are ok. Tony

Yeah, we got very lucky. Others were not so lucky.
Does smoke damage anything?
It can, depending on its composition. Some components of smoke can condense on surfaces, and the condensate is often corrosive. This isn't an issue for most things, but for my lab equipment it can damage sensitive RF connectors in the electronics side, and it can (and did) damage coatings and surfaces in the optics area. -Dave -- Dave McGuire, AK4HZ New Kensington, PA

I had not. Glad all people, pets, and facilities are OK. With the news, I searched for and found this: https://triblive.com/local/valleynewsdispatch/14075904-74/crews-battling-com... -ethan
If you look at the last picture from the Trib article, you can see the top of "Building 2" or the shop/apartment building bottom center, with the elevator equipment room on the top. So the shot would be looking up 9th street towards the bridge. This was the report I saw on KDKA news at 11 last night, https://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2018/09/13/huge-fire-destroys-businesses-apa...
