OT - Advice for CRT monitor price
I am looking at a used Sony PVM-97 8" CRT Black and White Video Monitor on eBay. The seller doesn't have pictures of it powered up, so I can't tell if it has burn-in. He is asking about $90 plus shipping. Can someone tell me if they think this is a reasonable price? He has a small quantity available and only provides one picture. Should I demand to see actual pictures of the unit powered up? Thanks, Chris
I’d say yes. That’s too much for a gamble. I’d ask for a pic with the brightness turned up so you can see the raster. If they refuse, no more than $40 for unknown condition. On Tue, Jul 16, 2024 at 9:07 AM Chris Fala via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:

There is practically a zero chance that a Sony PVM won’t have some minor burn-in. $90 plus shipping for a monochrome composite video monitor is pretty outrageous unless there's $75 in cash taped on the inside of the set. I'd just come to a swap meet and look around, have seen similar show up in the free pile or for practically nothing. In fact I may have something similar, not necessarily Sony, but B&W composite, if you're looking... HA! Money taped inside, nice! :-) Thanks for the advice, I might be in touch with you (I don't care if it is a Sony), eBay prices are so awful anymore. On Tue, Jul 16, 2024 at 9:21 AM CJ Reha via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:

You think $90 is outrageous, there is someone trying to get over $400 for one in New Jersey… There is also one in Bristol CT that they are asking $150. I would contact that guy and see if they would take $75-$80 and pick up in person, since shipping CRT’s can be a recipe for disaster. We all know how risky it is to ship a CRT ! Sent from: My extremely complicated, hand held electronic device.
