Re: [vcf-midatlantic] Warning: This thread involves game consoles
the biggest diappointment about the Retron 5 and similar game systems is that they don't play Atari games. Other than MAME, is there a system that plays all Atari carts in one system? b On Sat, Jun 3, 2017 at 12:00 AM, Alexander Pierson via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:

My dad bought us kids the original Atari 2600, my first game console. I preferred the planes over the tanks. Gen-X all the way. It is customary to reply to a thread such as this.

Your best and closest option is probably something like a massive flash multicart. Commercial products usually have to license the games which is probably a mess, and the 2600 had a really large library. Even with flash cart and a real 2600, I would assume some games like Pitfall II won't run from a flash cart since there is an audio co-processor in the cart (I believe.)
True, the Harmony cart doesn't have a Pokey chip for enhanced sound. IIRC I don't think there is one. On Sat, Jun 3, 2017 at 10:09 AM Ethan via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:

To be more specific....I want a system that works like the Retron 5. The AtariTrom5 could in theory accept Atari carts from 2600, 5200, 7800, and others. The Retron 5 accepts a 5 kinds of Nintendo and Sega carts. I am talking about the the actual original carts. You can use a real Nintendo game pad joystick on the Retron 5, so I'd want to be able to plug an Atari joystick into the AtariTron5. The Retron is a glorified emulator. The problem is that Jaguar and Lynx emulation is very limited (read: it sucks.) And nobody but weirdos like me is interested in those consoles, so there's not enough interest to generate a community of skilled programmers to work on it.
